Ringwood District is one of 88 seats in the Victorian Legislative Assembly, and includes the suburbs of Mitcham, Nunawading, Ringwood, Ringwood East and Heathmont, plus parts of Blackburn, Blackburn North, Donvale, Forest Hill and Vermont. Whilst the locality of Heatherdale has its own train station, and once had its own post office, it is not ‘officially’ a suburb.
These suburbs form part of the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nations, who have lived on this country for over 40,000 years. Today, the electorate is home to over 60,000 residents from all corners of the globe. In fact, a language other than English is spoken in one third of all households in our community.
Our community is a beautiful part of Melbourne, with lush green parks and treasured waterways including Blackburn Lake, Ringwood Lake and Mullum Mullum Creek. Ringwood Station is an important transportation hub and is directly opposite Eastland shopping centre and the offices of Maroondah City Council.
The train stations Nunawading, Mitcham, Heatherdale, Ringwood, Ringwood East and Heathmont are all in this electorate. Many people living in the western part of the district also use Blackburn Station. Ringwood District also has great road transport links, with the Eastern Freeway along the northern border, and Eastlink splitting the electorate neatly into its eastern and western halves.
I’m proud of the work that is happening in our community including major upgrades of every single government high school, works underway to remove the last two local level crossings and new local social housing projects.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers, though. If you have an idea to share, no matter how large or small, please let me know here or via the links below.
It’s an honour to be your independent representative in the Victorian Parliament.
