Burwood is home to over 65,000 residents in the heart of Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs. The electorate includes Ashburton, Ashwood, Burwood, Box Hill South and parts of Camberwell, Chadstone, Glen Iris and Surrey Hills, stretching from Canterbury Rd to the Monash Freeway.
Burwood sits on the lands of the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin nation, who cared for this place for up to 60,000 years.
The electorate is home to lush parklands at Wattle Park and along Gardiners Creek, as well as great local shopping strips in Ashburton, Burwood and Toorak Rd Camberwell.
Burwood is younger than the Victorian average, with 4 in 10 locals aged below 30. That’s why we are home to great education institutions, including terrific primary schools, successful secondary schools and world-leading Deakin University.
Our community is culturally diverse, too, with 6 in 10 residents having at least one parent born overseas. Our diversity is what makes us great - and I am so proud of what our multicultural communities bring to the local area.
For too long, Burwood was overlooked - but I am proud to be delivering for our local community, with significant works across the electorate. Whether it be Wattle Park, the Suburban Rail Loop or upgrades to schools - I am proud to represent our community in the Andrews Labor Government.
